Blog: Virtual Pet Sims

This page contains a blog for English Composition B.

About Me:

My name is Tayonna, I am currently a senior in high school. My favorite past times consist of drawing, reading, and following pet sim communities on Tumblr. I’ve been playing virtual pet sims since 2015. The first sim I ever played was Flight Rising and I have loved it since.

I enjoy pet sims because they are a good way to pass the time if you just want something to do. They don’t necessarily require a lot of time to play and all include their own form of creativity. Pet sim communities tend to be very close-knit so they tend to be friendly environments. For this blog, I will be posting about the games, Flight Rising, Lioden, and Chicken Smoothie.

Flight Rising’s Gemstone of an Event (Rockbreaker’s Ceremony 2018 Event Recap)

Flight Rising’s Gemstone of an Event (Rockbreaker’s Ceremony 2018 Event Recap)

Every month, Flight Rising holds a site wide event for one of their eleven dragon flights. November is the Rockbreaker’s Ceremony and celebrates the earth flight. Together, all of dragonkind enjoy the festivities which will be recapped in this post.

Treasure Hunting

The ceremony started on November 25th and ran until the 2nd of December, and in that time we got the usual site banter. Many users seemed to play in the coliseum to earn supplies for the event where ‘Deepearth Geodes’ were the prized find. The Deepearth Geodes seemed to be much more plentiful this year according to Flight Rising user, Maki’s finding. Where the ratio of grinding for the geodes seemed to be about 125 per hour. Maki also reported that the best venue to search for these geodes was Forgotten Cave which is a classic among older players and an obvious choice considering it’s gemstone aesthetic.

Skin and Accent Contest Results

Aside from all the geode collecting, comes the ceremony’s skin and accent contest results which are made public at every event. The skin and accent contest is hosted at the beginning of each month where site users can participate in an art contest to see who can make the best skins or accents for the next holiday. Skins and accents are often described like a coat of paint that can be placed over a dragon to give them a unique look. The contest runs all month and the staff picks 12 winners whose creations get to be sold to the site’s user base. This month, we received some flashy accents I think deserve a mention. One is called ‘Earthheart Opalescence’ which was created by Flight Rising user Lokenosse. The accent was created for the snapper dragon breed and consists of stonelike patterns which are colored to be a vibrant golden color.

Another Skin I think is worth mentioning is an accent for the Wildclaw dragon breed and is called ‘Oil Slick’ and was created by the user FunkEngline. I loved this accent because it adds long horn appendages onto the Wildclaw which can definitely make its look interesting. I also thought the gemstones leaking oil was a creative idea.

Smikkle’s Creation

Here’s a wonderful process video made by Flight Rising user, Smikkle of one of their entries to the Rockbreaker’s Ceremony skin and accent contest. Unfortunately, it did not win but it’s still a dazzling design. Great work!

Lustrous Exclusive Apparel

Another greatly anticipated aspect of the monthly holidays are the exclusive apparel the staff releases. Last year’s event brought us the gem thief apparel and was an interesting take on the earth flight culture. This year’s however, takes earth apparel to the next level with the new ‘Crystalcourt Cascades’. These new cascades bring a whole set of classy bling to your dragon and definitely redefines the wealthy look best fit for royalty. The Rockbreaker’s Ceremony also brought us the ‘Crystalcourt Halo’, a floating ring of gemstones to bring a little magic to your fashion if you so please. If you want this set, you can purchase them in the Festive Favors shop or the auction house if you came a bit late to the party.

User Response

Many Flight Rising users seemed to enjoy this year’s Rockbreaker’s Ceremony and brought us some more interesting content to the table. Here are some thoughts users had about the Ceremony.

“The apparel was quite unexpected, yes! it was a lot more elegant than i expected. There were relatively few entries this time so i had a pretty good idea of which were likely to win (skin and accent contest)” - Flight Rising user, Macchi.

“I loved the apparel -- especially on Skydancers (breed of dragon)-- and the familiars. I can't wait to see if they continue the feel of the outfit in the next festival.” - Flight Rising user, TheWhiteHart.

“The Staff has been knocking it out of the park this year with the new fest items. I knew I'd be pleasantly surprised by some tasteful selections, and I wasn't disappointed.” - Flight Rising user, Elisse.

Check out this forum post if you want to read more about what the fan base thought of the Ceremony. -

Wrap up

The Rockbreaker’s Ceremony is a well executed event which seemed to satisfy many users. In the past, the ceremony has brought us similar material each time but this year the staff decided to spice things up a little and I must say, they did a fantastic job. I was extremely impressed with this event and I can’t wait for next year’s.
